Children promote peace though their art in Almaty
“Children are painting the World. Asia” is an annual International Festival that was held on September 4-8, 2016 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Organized by the Kazakhstan National Federation of UNESCO Clubs in cooperation with the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – the Leader of the Nation and Akimat of Almaty, the project covered more that 7.000 talented children aged 3-17 from different countries of Asia-Pacific region and was dedicated to Almaty city’s 1000th Anniversary.
150 winners of the International Festival were given an opportunity to attend unique discussions, workshops and master classes on the culture of peace and tolerance. Participants have also taken part in the workshop of fine arts and lectures about Kazakh culture. As a part of the project, an exciting sightseeing program throughout Almaty city, the cultural capital of Kazakhstan, was held as well.
Most importantly, the event gathered together children from different countries and different backgrounds, but who have similar interests of keeping peace and promoting tolerance around the world. Young people express their perspective of the world through creativity and art, which is corresponding with UNESCO’s idea of intercultural dialogue and rapprochement of cultures.
A fascinating official Gala Awarding Ceremony of the Festival “Children are painting the World. Asia” was held on September 7, 2016 in the Kazakh State theatre of opera and ballet. A large number of honorable guests, delegates of the 23rd Session of the Asian-Pacific Federation of UNESCO Clubs and Associations Executive Board Meeting, representatives of public authorities, the diplomatic corps, business community and the media.
